Sci-Hub

Sci-Hub是目前已知第一個提供大量自動且免費的付費學術論文的網站，使用者不須要事前訂閱或付款，就可以使用本來存放在付費數據庫的論文文章，並提供搜尋原先出版社網站內的文件檔案服務。其中這些檔案都是透過世界各地匿名學者提供的使用帳號，透過這些帳號使得網站可以取得JSTOR、施普林格科學+商業媒體、賽吉出版公司、愛思惟爾等出版社所擁有的論文，並將之加以集結。當用戶向Sci-Hub提交論文請求時，網站會先搜尋創世紀圖書館是否有可提供的檔案；若是創世紀圖書館並無事先儲存，Sci-Hub會以特定數據庫的帳號下載文章，並送至創世紀圖書館備份以供未來使用。

 

古騰堡計劃

古騰堡工程（Project Gutenberg，縮寫：PG），由志願者參與，致力於將文化做品的數字化和歸檔，並鼓勵創做和發行電子書。該工程肇始於1971年，是最先的數字圖書館。其中的大部分書籍都是公有領域書籍的本來，古騰堡工程確保這些本來自由流通、自由文件格式，有利於長期保存，並可在各類計算機上閱讀。截至2018年7月，古騰堡工程聲稱超過57,000件館藏。

在可能的狀況下，發佈的格式是純文本文件，但也包括其餘格式，如HTML、PDF、EPUB、MOBI、Plucker。大多數版本使用的語言是英語，但也能夠有許多非英語的做品。有多個相關項目，提供更多的內容，包括區域性的和特定於語言的做品。古騰堡計劃也密切聯繫Distributed Proofreaders，一個校對掃描文本的以互聯網爲基礎的社區。

Library Genesis or LibGen is a search engine for articles and books on various topics, which allows free access to content that is otherwise paywalled or not digitized elsewhere. Among others, it carries PDFs of content from Elsevier's ScienceDirect web-portal.

In 2015, the website became involved in a legal case when Elsevier accused it of providing pirate access to articles and books.LibGen is reported to be registered in both Russia and Amsterdam, making it unclear which legislation applies,and whether defendants will show up in a United States court hearing. LibGen is blocked by a number of ISPs in the United Kingdom,but such DNS-based blocks are claimed to do little to deter access.In late October 2015, the District Court for the Southern District of New York ordered LibGen to shut down and to suspend use of the domain name (libgen.org),[6] but the site is accessible through alternate domains.

As of 5 June 2018, Library Genesis states that its database contains more than 2.7 million books and 58 million science magazine files.
