天然拼讀法

英文的26個字母，5個元音：a e i o u 發自己的音（y 在單詞中間也是元音），其他的都是輔音。

大多數輔音，發音是一對一的，而有少數幾個輔音字母，有多個發音。

hard c sound：C 字母后接a o u 時，c 發音同 k。例如：cat、cap、call

soft c sound: C 字母后接 e i y 時，c 發音同 s。例如：city、ice、face

hard g sound: G 字母后接a o u 時，發音不變。例如：girl、get、go

軟G音：G 字母后接 e i y時，g 發音同 j。例如：age、change、gentle

特例：forget、give、girl 中的g 發音是 g

x在單詞中間或結尾發 ks 音。例如：box、next、mix、fox

x在單詞起始位置發 z 音

y在單詞起始位置發輔音y，在結尾位置只有一個音時 發i音，有兩個音時發 e 音

y在單詞中間時發 i 音。

ch 發吃的音，sh 發溼的音

wh 通常狀況發 w音，在o前面發 h 音。例如：what、who

th 發濁音。例如：the、this、then。其餘以th開始的字母發清音：think、thank

tion 發 甚 的音。

在有些輔音字母組合中，其中一個字母是不發音的。下面列出這些組合

gh，h不發音。例如：ghost

gn，g不發音。例如：gnat，gnarl

kn，K不發音。例如：knife，know

mb，b不發音。例如：comb，lamb

pn，p不發音

ps，p不發音。例如：psalm

rh，h不發音。例如：rhythm

sc，c不發音。例如：scene

wr，w不發音。例如：wrist

gh，都不發音。例如：light

ck，c不發音。例如：black
